At Roundhay St John's we actively promote and teach pupils about healthy lifestyles to help them positive choices in relation to food, exercise and mental wellbeing. We have successfully self validated (October 2020) to maintain our Healthy Schools status using the Leeds School Health Check.
The Healthy Schools Health check has four aspects:
Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE)
We follow the You, Me, PSHE scheme of work which centers around the following themes:
Physical health and well-being
Keeping safe and managing risk
Identity, society and equality
Drug, alcohol and tobacco education
Mental health and emotional well-being
Career, financial capability and economic well-being
Relationship and sex education.
Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) Policy
Our whole school food policy demonstrates our commitment to promoting healthy eating in all aspects of school life. The websites below may be helpful in providing ideas of how to promote healthy eating including suggestions for healthy packed lunches.
We have a wide ranging PE curriculum and actively promote physical activity at other times in the school day.
Social, Emotional and Mental Health
We are a Mindmate Friendly School having been validated by Leeds Children’s Services. Mrs Jones, our Learning Mentor, supports children across school and we also have Family Support Workers who work with families who are experiencing difficulties of some kind. We work closely with many outside agencies including: social care, ESNW Cluster Services, Educational Psychologists, CAMHS, Mindmate SPA to support our pupils who are experiencing SEMH difficulties.
